In December of 2023, FIPA had the opportunity and privilege to attend and present at Government Information Days (Gov Info Days). The annual event is coordinated by an organizing committee of government info librarians who develop the programs and share hosting.
This annual virtual conference is the perfect opportunity to engage with government information colleagues from across Canada and further afield. Come and learn what librarians, archivists, journalists and scholars are working on (or are concerned about), and let’s celebrate our achievements.
Gov Info Days
Mike Larsen, FIPA President & faculty member in the Criminology Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University was invited to conduct a freedom of information workshop. This introductory workshop for requesters focused on how to use Access to Information and Freedom of Information mechanisms, and was geared towards novice to intermediate requesters.
The workshop covered the ‘life cycle’ of FOI research, from preliminary research and accessing the results of previous requests to the preparation and filing of original requests, to troubleshooting requests in progress. Time was set aside for Q&A’s with some great discussion.
The workshop provided a great opportunity to make our latest FOI presentation and update our supporting resources.
