This course is essential for any individual or organization that creates records and is concerned with trust, transparency, and long-term access. Records explain the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of an organizations decision making. And through these records a Duty to Document encourages accountability, transparency, good governance and public trust, while also creating an optimal work environment where records are appropriately created and available for ease of use.
The modules provide guidance and direction on the importance of records creation, management, and retention, clarifying staff responsibilities, creating policy, ensuring that records remain authentic, reliable, and easily retrievable when subject to access to information requests.
The training would be appropriate for Law professionals, privacy professionals, Local Public Bodies, Public Servants, Information Security Professionals, Risk and Compliance Officers, Information and Data Managers, Information Governance Officers, Records Managers, educational program managers, Board Members, researchers, and journalists.
This course is also valuable for any person or organization that wants to increase their capacity and professional development in areas of Duty to Document, and records and information management (RIM).
Every organization in Canada creates records that lay the groundwork for everyday business functions and create trust and transparency with the greater public.
In Canada today, federal legislation lacks firm guidelines on records creation, maintenance, and disposition. Opening the door for poor records management, and an opportunity for loss of information, lack of access to records that may have been lost or never created in the first place, legal risk and more. Records show what an organization did and why it did it, as such for records to stand as the best possible evidence and sources of truth for all this activity, they must be created.
An integrated duty to document ensures that individuals in your organization are able to find and share information as they need it. Information that an organization relies on to function. These practices allow for better ease of use and time saved. An inherent duty to document promotes the creation of full and accurate records from the get-go.
These modules provide you with the tools to navigate existing federal and provincial law, industry best-practice and more, to create an organizational culture that allow for optimal functionality with regards to recordkeeping, and the best understanding of how a record is integral to Access, Transparency and Trust in public institutions.
