From an exclusive in the Breaker.

Colin Gabelman led the creation of FOI legislation in the early 90’s.

At that time they strove to create the best legislation in the western world.

A lot has changed since then including his parties commitment to improve access to information.

Today he sees them aiming much lower.

Civic society is speaking against Bill 22. The OIPC is critical of the Bill. The Bill erodes Transparency of the government and moves BC to mediocrity at best. It is a Flip Flop for the party in power given where they stood in 2017. Yet this majority government continues to try and ram it through.

Transparency Matters to all of us.

Bill 22 opens the Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act for substantive changes for the first time in over a decade. Unfortunately, if passed, this Bill will undermine access to information and make public bodies less transparent. It is a step backwards for openness and accountability, and a missed opportunity to improve the information rights of British Columbians.
