Dear Member of Parliament,

I am writing to express my serious concern about Part 4 of Bill C-4.

As currently drafted, Part 4 would exempt federal political parties from Canada’s fair information principles and from independent privacy oversight. This would allow political parties to collect, use, and retain Canadians’ personal information without meaningful transparency, accountability, or enforceable limits.

A free and fair democracy depends on public trust. Canadians should not have fewer privacy rights when dealing with political parties than they do with private businesses, public institutions, or even law-enforcement agencies.

I urge you to ensure that federal political parties are subject to:
<ul>
 	<li>Canada’s fair information principles, and</li>
 	<li>Independent oversight by a privacy regulator.</li>
</ul>
Please support amendments to remove or substantially revise Part 4 of Bill C-4 so that Canadians’ privacy rights are protected in the democratic process.
