TEMISKAMING SHORES – Pauline Rochefort, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, plans to serve the people of her riding more effectively with the opening of her new constituency office in New Liskeard on February 19.
The new office is located at 65 Whitewood Avenue in New Liskeard, across the street from the Post Office and at the rear of the Telus Go to Jo Mobility outlet.
The grand opening was a busy event with about 100 people who came to see what services are offered at the new location over the afternoon.
Dignitaries included Temiskaming Shores Mayor Jeff Laferriere and Councillor Dan Dawson, along with Economic Development officers James Franks and Andre Brock, Coleman Mayor Dan Cleroux as well as Temiskaming Shores Chamber of Commerce representative Tara Scott.
The constituency office offers a welcoming and convenient space for residents to access federal services, share their concerns and collaborate on local solutions, noted Rochefort in an interview before the ribbon cutting ceremony.
“It’s about having boots on the ground, it is about being in the centre of the action and Temiskaming is a thriving area. It is very important that we be at the centre of this region to provide our services,” said the MP.
She said she was happy to have found such a great location and have added staff in the office such as constituency manager Amanda St. Jean and also Laila Abouzaid.
“We have also connected our North Bay office to this location for added supports to improve people having access to information,” said Rochefort.
“People can contact us for everything to do with affordability and the various benefits we provide. From here they can access information and sometimes people aren’t able to navigate technology to find out information. For us it is about increasing access for citizens to find out about different types of expertise in federal government services,” she explained.
Citizens go to their MP’s constituency office with a variety of concerns related to federal government responsibilities and services.
Some of the information and assistance provided by the New Liskeard office are related to the Canada Pension Plan, Canada Revenue Agency, Canada Student Loans, Canadian Dental Care Plan, Employment Insurance Benefits, federal crown corporations, passport assistance, old age security, petitions to parliament, Services Canada, Veterans Affairs and more.
The New Liskeard constituency office is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The telephone number for the New Liskeard office is 705-647-6262. Rochefort can also be reached by email at pauline.rochefort@parl.gc.ca.
