If you’re a fan of yummy baked goods and reading great books, why not join the two together by attending the Friends of the Falher Library Bake Sale on April 2?
President Geneviève Nicolet explains Friends of the Falher Library / Amis de la Bibliothèque Dentinger is a bilingual volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the library in Falher.
“We help fundraise and contribute toward the many activities, programs, and operational needs of the library, ensuring it continues to thrive as a valuable community resource,” explains Nicolet.
“Our annual Easter bake sale is a wonderful way to bring the community together in a fun and welcoming atmosphere,” she adds. “It gives patrons and community members the opportunity to share their baking talents, pick up some delicious treats, and support the library at the same time.”
Nicolet says the library will be open at 9 a.m. for individuals to drop off their baking. She says there is normally bread, hot cross buns, dinner buns, cinnamon buns, muffins, cupcakes, cakes, loafs, pies, bars, squares, cookies and so much more for purchase.
“It (the bake sale) also creates a space for connection and conversation between visitors and board members,” she says. “It’s just a warm invitation to come by, enjoy, and be part of something special.”
The bake sale will help to provide financial support for the Falher Library/Bibliothèque Dentinger to continue offering programs, resources, and services to the community. It also allows the Friends flexibility to support the library and its operational cost.
“The Falher Library/Bibliothèque Dentinger is truly the heart of our community,” says Nicolet.
“It’s more than just a place for books, it’s a welcoming space where people of all ages can gather, learn, and connect. It promotes literacy, helps bridge the digital divide, and offers free access to information and education.”
The bake sale will start at noon and will run all day until all goodies are sold out. She says the library is truly a special facility and she hopes people will support it.
“What also sets our library apart is its ability to meet our communities dynamic, bilingual nature, by providing both English and French in its resources, programs, activities and events,” says Nicolet.
“Our community is full of amazing bakers. From grandma’s homemade bread to beautifully-decorated cookies, cakes, and pies, there’s always something special. In past years, we’ve even had whoopie pies, macaroons, and sourdough bread.”
Nicolet says all proceeds will go back into the library’s operation. The library offers programs such as Dungeons and Dragons RPG Club, Movie Night at the Library, Bumble Buddies, Senior’s Outreach, Outdoor Learning, Summer Reading, Take and Make kits, and Tech Thursdays.
“We also sponsor and participate in events such as hosting authors and cultural programs,” she says.
“For a small community, our library plays a huge role in keeping us connected to the world. It provides access to books, digital services, and online news. It’s also a cozy place to relax, with a coffee corner and comfortable seating.
“Supporting the library means supporting access to knowledge, connection, and opportunity for everyone.”
Nicolet also extends an invitation to attend the Friends of the Falher Library/ Amis de la bibliothèque Dentinger AGM April 27 at 10 a.m. at Falher Library/ Bibliothèque Dentinger.
