The Town of Halton Hills is alerting residents about fraudulent text messages circulating in the community that falsely claim to be linked to fines from the town’s Automated Speed Enforcement program.
The town, in a post on X, emphasized these messages are not connected to the municipality in any way. For one, the town does not use text messages to communicate speeding infractions.
Instead, the town said on its website, that “the penalty order, including a digital copy of the image and an enlargement of the licence plate, is mailed to the registered plate holder.”
The town said legitimate penalty orders will always include:
“Please do not respond to these text messages or click on any links they contain,” stated the town, adding that anyone uncertain about the legitimacy of a communication claiming to be from the town should contact Service Halton Hills at 905-873-2600, ext. 0, or email servicehh@haltonhills.ca.
