Three Rivers council unanimously voted to appoint a staff member as the new protection of privacy coordinator on November 10.
The town is appointing the new clerk of council, Andrea MacDonald, to the position.
“There has been a vacancy since the retirement of the previous clerk,” CAO John Jamieson said, noting the position is typically held by the clerk. Joan Marks retired in May after five years in the job.
MacDonald filled the role in September, and the decision was to appoint her for the position as part of her job description, Jamieson added.
According to the access of information bylaw, the role of the coordinator is accepting and processing applications for access to information, clarifying and responding to the applicant, which includes approving or denying the requests.
The coordinator is also responsible for training and educating council and town staff about access to information and the protection of personal information.
They are required to determine the estimated fees for the applications and write an annual report to the council with information on the number of applications received by the town, including the number of applications that were denied and accepted.
Jamieson said there will not be any additional cost to the town for this appointment.
