Elections Alberta is recruiting for its largest-ever election officer effort ahead of the October 19, 2026, referendum. The Taber-Warner electoral division urgently needs workers for a variety of roles, including site supervisors, voting officers, and counting officers. Alberta residents 16 and older may apply online now through October 10, 2026, at elections.ab.ca/jobs/election-officer-recruitment/election-officer-recruitment.
The Opportunity
“We would really like to hire another 200 to 300 people right here in my electoral district, and I’m not alone—many of my colleagues across southern Alberta are looking for staff too,” says Wendy Noble, Returning Officer, Taber-Warner. “The sooner people apply, the better. We’re looking for a multitude of people, so I’d encourage everyone to apply as soon as possible.”
Available Positions
Elections Alberta offers a large variety of positions for ages 16 and older, with a range of hours and tasks. The following roles are available in each of Alberta’s electoral divisions:

Election officers are appointed at each voting place to serve electors during three key periods: advance voting, from October 13 to 17; election day, on October 19; and counting ballots, from October 19 to 21.
Requirements and Training
All applicants must pass a criminal record check, and election workers cannot participate in any political activity during their employment. Certain individuals are ineligible, including MPs, MLAs, municipal councillors, school board trustees, candidates, judges, and those convicted of an indictable offence within the past 10 years. All election workers must complete training (which may be online, in person, or both depending on the role).
How to Apply
A Great Way to Earn Money and Boost a Resume – While Doing a Civic Duty
Noble says, “I do encourage people, even if they’ve got friends or relatives that live in different areas to go on to elections.ab.ca and put in an application. She points to flexible roles that fit around busy schedules, including evening counter positions. “If they’ve got a little bit of extra time, they could be a counter in the evening, for example. This gives them a little bit of pocket money for something special they’re saving up for.
Noble is especially keen to reach younger residents, noting that the election is hiring workers aged 16 and up.
“I think that’s really important,” she said. “If there are high school students out there who would be interested in working for the election, it would be a good item to have on the resume.” She notes that training can be arranged to suit commitments. “We do have training that we can work around school schedules, later in the day or in the evening. We really do try to accommodate getting in some of our younger generation.
“People are used to coming out to vote,” she adds, “but they’ve never seen what goes on behind the scenes. This gives them that whole other side of the process.”
Apply Now
The 2026 referendum represents a significant moment for Alberta, and election officers are essential to its success. Residents of Taber-Warner and the surrounding Southern Alberta region who are interested in supporting this important civic process are encouraged to apply now.
